This explorer is a client-side demonstration for searching and spatially exploring British Geological Survey mine-plan catalogue records. Quarter-sheet polygons are generated from the quarter-sheet references in the supplied dataset and are used as an approximate spatial index for filtering and discovery.

Data & licensing

The mine-plan catalogue information and scan links originate from the British Geological Survey (BGS). BGS states that OpenGeoscience information is made available under the Open Government Licence (OGL) wherever possible. For BGS information specifically released under the OGL, the required acknowledgement is: “Contains British Geological Survey materials © UKRI 2026.”

Individual historical plans, scans, images, third-party material, or other BGS-hosted content may be subject to additional copyright or licensing terms. This app does not grant new rights in those materials; users should check the applicable BGS terms before reuse or republication. Scan previews remain BGS-hosted and are linked or embedded from the source service.

Basemaps are provided by Esri ArcGIS Online map services and rendered with Leaflet 1.9.4. This avoids a WebGL2 dependency while retaining Esri basemap cartography; service attribution is displayed on the map. Leaflet is open-source software distributed under the BSD 2-Clause licence.
